Business Rivals? Really?

11/29/2020

Big corporate rivalries - Coca-Cola and Pepsi, Boeing and Airbus, McDonald's and Burger King - tend to have one thing in common: competition for the same business.
That's why Facebook and Apple's feud is so intriguing.
They're both big technology companies, and that's where the similarities end.
Almost all of Facebook's revenue is from advertising but it provides only a small fraction of Apple's, which comes mostly from devices and its App Store.
The two companies don't really compete with each other - they just don't like each other.

Happy Thanksgiving USA !

From wikipedia...

Thanksgiving
is a federal holiday in the United States, celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November.[1] It is sometimes called American Thanksgiving (outside the United States) to distinguish it from the Canadian holiday of the same name. It originated as a harvest festival, and the centerpiece of Thanksgiving celebrations remains Thanksgiving dinner. The dinner traditionally consists of foods and dishes indigenous to the Americas, namely turkey, potatoes (usually mashed), stuffing, squash, corn (maize), green beans, cranberries (typically in sauce form), and pumpkin pie. In American culture Thanksgiving is regarded as the beginning of the fall–winter holiday season, which includes Christmas and the New Year.

A new security law being unveiled on Tuesday threatens telecoms giants with hefty fines if they fail to tighten security. The Telecommunications Security Bill bans the involvement of Chinese firm Huawei in the UK's 5G mobile network. But it also says that companies which fail to meet deadlines for higher security requirements could face enormous fines.
Some of these could be 10% of turnover, or more than £100,000 a day.

Have a read of this...

"The IT industry should be regulated to ensure ethical standards in areas like artificial intelligence, according to new public survey.

The majority (59%) of UK adults believe the profession should be kept focussed on solving society’s problems by an independent regulatory body, the poll by BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT found.
In contrast, only 23% felt that ‘big tech’ companies should have the task of enforcing the industry’s ethical standards, while 22% said politicians should have the job."
